Salary Q&A
-
Questions regarding employee salaries are often beyond a simple answer because of the many components that impact district funding and resources. Red Oak ISD knows without a doubt that our educators are the number one factor in student learning. We strive to recruit and retain highly-qualified educators and staff to benefit our students!

How ROISD compares to other ISDs?
The goal is to be competitive with the area market for recruiting and retaining the best educators and district personnel!
Red Oak ISD teacher starting salary is $53,500 with a Bachelor’s Degree, and the average ROISD teacher salary is $61,005. (2021-2022 TAPR report) In Dallas (Region 10), the average teacher salary is $60,501, and (Region 11) is $59,339. The national average starting teacher salary for 2019-20 was $41,163, an increase of 2.5 percent over 2018-19.
Salaries in ‘major urban’ and ‘major suburban’ Texas districts are highest, while ‘other central-city areas,’ such as Red Oak ISD, have a median starting salary of $43,432 and a median average of $50,333. (Dallas Morning News 1/18/2019).
ROISD is in line with ‘other central-city area’ ISD, and above charters, independent towns, non-metro areas, and rural ISDs. As district size increases, the entire community has grown including business, industry, and housing. This growth will often help an ISD with increasing salaries through access to additional funds.

How does a district determine teacher pay?
Every district has a set Teacher Salary Schedule that is based on the teacher’s years of experience. Some surrounding areas have increased schedule steps to entice new teachers in recruitment and assist with the retention of existing staff.
Red Oak ISD also has stipends for Master's and Doctorate Degrees in the content area taught. We also offer hard-to-fill position stipends such as secondary math and science. Plus, we have stipends for some additional duties and responsibilities such as high school fine arts, athletics, and UIL sponsors.
-
When will the district make salary recommendations for next year?
Red Oak ISD has aggressively pursued higher salaries for all positions in the district. Since 2019-2020 (the past three years), ROISD has provided $7,500 in step increases for the teacher pay scales (plus step increases for returning teachers), as well as generous percentage increases for other employees. In addition, many positions have been evaluated for market increases and stipends have been evaluated for equity.
As with many ISDs, we are utilizing additional federal and state funds to increase student learning which may also positively impact employee pay.
Each budget cycle, the district prioritizes employee pay for both recruitment and retention purposes starting in January.

Why should someone consider teaching in Red Oak?
We know our employees work as hard (or harder) than area teachers and hope you know how much we appreciate each member of our Hawk family. We also know that having a culture of family and truly appreciating our employees often brings those seeking ‘greener pastures’ back to Red Oak ISD.
We try to balance compensation with benefits and staff appreciation that compares to top corporate workplaces. Teacher appreciation days, special community activities, HAWKperk discounts from local businesses, employee daycare, and teacher grants are non-monetary perks that add value to being a ROISD employee. We also strive to provide work-life balance for our employees through health and wellness programs such as free local gym access, employee assistance program, and medical, dental, and vision coverage.
Professional training and tuition reimbursement (Title I schools) assist employees with career development as we invest in the growth of our employees. Finally, we hope to provide the little things that make working at Red Oak ISD enjoyable including casual dress days, birthday celebrations, recognition of great work, semester surprises, and more!
We thank each member of Red Oak ISD for believing in our students and the vision to help Realize Our Individual Students’ Dreams through the embracing of the 4 Talons and culture of ROISD.
