Student Process Map for COVID-19

    PRIOR TO SCHOOL

    Student is test-confirmed to have COVID-19.

    • The student does not report to school or participate in other school activities.
    • Parent reports the absence to the campus.
    • The student may return to campus after 5 days have passed from positive test result or symptom onset, as long as the student has improvement in symptoms, and at least 24 hours have passed with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medication.
    • CDC recommends wearing a mask for 10 days after the onset of symptoms or positive test.
    • Upon notification of a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive on a campus, the district will report to TDSHS as required.

    Student has one or more COVID-19 symptoms in the morning BEFORE coming to school and is SUSPECTED of having COVID 19.

    • The student does not report to school or participate in other activities. Student reports the absence to his/her campus.
    • Student should contact their primary care physician for guidance and/or alternate diagnosis.
    • The student may return to school after 5 days have passed from symptom onset, as long as the student has improvement in symptoms, and at least 24 hours have passed with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medication or medical certification.
    • CDC recommends wearing a mask for 10 days after the onset of symptoms or positive test.

    Student reports having “close contact” with someone who is TEST-confirmed to have COVID-19.

    • Student shall report to school and monitor their health as usual.
    • CDC recommends wearing a mask until 10 days after contact.

    Student reports someone in their home was exposed to someone who is TEST-confirmed to have COVID-19.

    • Student shall report to school and monitor their health as usual.

    AT SCHOOL

    Student develops one or more symptoms of COVID-19 during the school day.

    • The campus nurse will follow protocols for evaluation of an ill student at school.

    CLOSE CONTACT DEFINITION

    Someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period (for example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes). An infected person can spread SARS-CoV-2 starting 2 days before they have any symptoms (or, for asymptomatic people, 2 days before the positive specimen collection date).
