Bilingual & English as Second Language Mission
Red Oak ISD will ensure that all language learners achieve long-term academic success linguistically, academically and cognitively within a socially and culturally supportive environment.
Red Oak ISD provides Bilingual and English as A Second Language (ESL) instruction in order to provide a comprehensive program designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of speakers of other languages.
Red Oak ISD will provide English as Second Language classrooms at each elementary campuses and ESL certified teachers at the secondary campuses.
Red Oak ISD will provide Dual Language Enrichment classrooms for our bilingual students at Wooden Elementary and Schupmann Elementary.
Red Oak ISD currently has a One-Way Dual Language Program where only students who are non-English proficient qualify. English oral language and reading in Spanish are taught until 2nd grade, where they begin 50% Reading Language Arts and 50% Spanish Language Arts until 5th grade. Our goal is for our Emergent Bilingual students to build their primary language and literacy skills to attain full proficiency in English and Spanish.
