Red Oak ISD Unity

Dear Red Oak ISD staff, students, and parents,

As a district, we have an obligation, as well as a sincere desire, to stand in the gaps of cultural competence and awareness. We must direct and guide others to understand that what one might think to be suitable, others can truly take as offensive. We are at a tipping point in America, as well as in our own growing community, where the value of each and every person must be not only noted but fully respected. We must be conscious, aware, mindful, and intentional in our words and actions because we must value each other.

Again, I must reiterate that Red Oak ISD is proud of our diversity, and we are unified in our thoughts and actions that we are all one. We take pride in knowing that our strength and love is found in our diversity, and we will not tolerate anything going against our unison.

If past actions have caused hurt for an individual or any portion of our population, I want to be the first to offer my sincere and heartfelt apology. Secondly, I want you to know we stand by our commitment, and we will do better.

  • We are taking steps toward our commitment to research diversity training for all employees and are working with student leaders to address student concerns.
  • In August, the ROISD Board of Trustees approved a new character education program, Connect with Kids Network, addressing bullying, cultural differences, microaggressions, and more intertwined with teaching respect, appreciation, and values to students through age-appropriate content.
  • Finally, our new Director of School and Family Services, Shondra Jones, will be a valuable avenue for concerns from parents, students, and staff as together we work to make Red Oak ISD better each day. You can contact her at

In our true Red Oak Hawks fashion, we will show respect to each other, we will lift each other when we fall, we will stand up for what is right, and we will always be kind to each other because we know we are all equals! We take the conversations from today, and we are committed to moving forward in a positive way to always recognize equality and pride in diversity.

We will take responsibility for our words and actions, and we will be committed to being the change. As always, my door is open – please feel free to reach out to me with any concerns.
