ROISD expanding bilingual programming for the 2020-21 school year
The Dual Language Bilingual Program participation in Red Oak ISD continues to increase in size each year. For the past several years, H.A. Wooden Elementary has been the sole home to the elementary-level bilingual program, but with the recent growth the program will be expanded and Russell P. Schupmann Elementary will begin offering the Dual Language Bilingual Program in the fall of 2020-21.
Both campuses will offer programming for students in grades K-5 which allows for more students to receive bilingual services and support. The expansion will allow students at Shields Elementary and Schupmann Elementary attendance zones to receive bilingual services at a campus closer to their residence. Students from attendance zones for Eastridge, Red Oak and Wooden elementary schools will continue to receive bilingual services at Wooden Elementary.
“We are excited to expand this successful program in response to our growing student population,” stated Rebecca Vega, the new Director of Specialized Learning and former Principal at Wooden Elementary. “Our families will benefit from having a second program closer to their neighborhood school.”
