Mrs. Hancock, Melissa
Hello! Welcome to Russell P. Schupmann's Gifted and Talented Education page. My name is Melissa Hancock and I'm excited to be your child's GT teacher. This is my 25th year in education and 20th year to teach gifted and talented students in Red Oak ISD. I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and I earned my Master of Education degree from Texas Woman's University. I have my ESL certification and my Gifted and Talented Specialist certification. I'm a life-long learner! When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading, sewing, canning, snow & water skiing, crafting, swimming, traveling, outdoor adventures and being with my family!
My husband, Clayton, and I have been happily married for 28 years and we have four wonderful children. Our oldest son, Preston, is an Anatomy & Physiology teacher and coach in Maypearl ISD. Our son, Travis, now a pilot, and his wife Addie reside in Longview, Texas, and are expecting our first grandchild in October. Our daughter, Elizabeth, graduated from Navarro College in Waxahachie and participated in Red Oak ISD's ELEVATE Program. Our daughter, Sarah, attends Red Oak High School, loves school and enjoys being on the high school swim team. I have three yorkie-mix dogs that are energetic and fun!
My Gifted and Talented classroom is a safe place to take risks and reach farther than expected. It's a place where my students thrive while being challenged to reach their full potential. I don't consider this a job...it's my passion! It's going to be a fantastic year in GT.
