Special Olympics
Athlete Eligibility
Athlete eligibility is based on the Special Olympics of Texas / SOTX Information Guide.
Eligibility is limited to people who have closely related developmental disabilities such as those who have functional limitation, both in general learning and in adaptive skills such as recreation, work, independent living, self-direction, or self-care.
People who have multiple disabilities may participate in Special Olympics provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
People with functional limitations based solely on a physical, behavioral, emotional, specific learning disability, or sensory disability are not eligible.
Age
People 8 years of age and older are eligible for competition. Athletes must be a minimum of 12 years old by the first day of the Games to participate in chapter level competition.
