The Texas Seal of Biliteracy honors high school graduates who have attained proficiency in English and at least one other language. This prestigious recognition celebrates the power of multilingualism in our global society.


About the Seal
What It Is:
The Seal of Biliteracy is a performance acknowledgment on a student’s transcript and diploma, recognizing proficiency in two or more languages.
Why It Matters:
- Enhances college applications and resumes
- Demonstrates cultural competence
- Opens doors to global career opportunities
Eligibility Requirements
For All Students:
- Complete all English Language Arts requirements with a GPA of 80+
- Demonstrate proficiency in another language through one of the following:
- 3+ credits in the same language with GPA 80+
- AP score of 3+ or IB score of 4+
- National language proficiency test (Intermediate High or higher)
For English Learners:
- Must meet exit criteria for ESL/Bilingual programs
- Score Advanced High on TELPAS
