School Library Advisory Council

The Red Oak ISD Board of Trustees has established a school library advisory council (SLAC) to assist the district in ensuring that library collections support student achievement, meet state standards, and reflect community expectations. School Library Advisory Council (SLAC) is a group appointed by the Board of Trustees and shall meet at least two times each year but may hold additional meetings in order to consider recommendations from district staff and fulfill its statutory duties.  The SLAC is comprised of seven voting members who are parents or guardians of students enrolled in the District.

The duties of the SLAC are to:

• Serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees.

• Gain an understanding of the library collection development standards and the District processes associated with the collection of library materials. 

• Provide recommendations on policies and guidelines related to the District’s library collection.

• Participate in the review of library materials proposed for purchase.

Board Policies EFB (LEGAL) and EFB (LOCAL) and DOI allowable amendments govern the processes related to library collection development which include the ongoing evaluation, selection, acquisition, and deselection processes of library materials.

The meeting is being called in accordance with the Texas Education Code section 33.025.

Notice was posted on Wednesday, February 18, 4:30 P.M. and remained so posted continuously for at least 72 hours proceeding the scheduled time of said meeting in accordance with SB 13. 

An electronic copy of the agenda will be available on the district’s Learning Commons website under the School Library Advisory Council, and in the days following, an audio recording and meeting minutes will be posted to the District SLAC web page.
