Hello!  I am Mary Kocian and I will be teaching 5th-grade math this school year.  This will be my 33nd year in education and 30th year teaching math and my third year in 5th grade!   I am originally from Kansas but I got to Texas as fast as I could!  I have spent all my teaching years here in Red Oak and all at ROE.  

I live in Waxahachie with my husband Jim and step-son Cameron.  I have a beautiful step-daughter Ashley, her husband Robert, (a former student), and the lights of my life, my grandson Easton and granddaughter Rory Jane.  I have 2 lab puppies that I am in love with!  My mother is the oldest of 16 children so, besides my brother and sister, I have a huge extended family.  Makes for great family reunions.

For fun, I like to bake, cook, read, and walk and play with my puppies.  I am starting to refinish furniture and enjoying that process a great deal. I love house plants and succulents, but unfortunately, I do not have a green thumb!  My favorite place in the world is my family cabin in southern Colorado.   

5th grade math has a deep focus on decimals and fractions as well as order of operations.  It will help greatly if you know your math facts and are ready to work!
