Grades 1-5 |
Thirty (30) minutes a day in grades 1-5.
NOTE: If the above requirement is impractical due to scheduling concerns or other factors, students may participate in moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least 135 minutes during each school week.

PE Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)-based instruction is required to be offered at each elementary/intermediate school grade level.

**Fitness assessments using FITNESSGRAM are required for all students in grades 3-5 who are enrolled in PE or PE equivalent course. |
Grades 6-8 |
Thirty (30) minutes a day of physical activity are required for grades 6-8 and to be offered at least four semesters during grades 6-8.

As referenced above, PE TEKS-based instruction is required to be offered at each intermediate/junior high grade level, but the format is flexible. |

Grades 9-12 |
Structured physical activity is included in courses listed in the TAC for graduation credit. TEKS for these courses can be found on the TEA website. |
The State Board of Education adopted changes to the high school graduation requirements in January 2012. The new requirements are effective beginning with students who enter grade 9 in the 2012-2013 school year.
